The Main Causes That Lead To Rubber Deterioration: Learn The Best Ways To Prevent It.

Chances are that something made of rubber has disappointed you at some point in your life.

Rubber is probably one of the greatest inventions of mankind, but like most materials, deterioration of rubber will eventually occur over time due to common environmental factors like heat, light and ozone. Areas in your cars like: open doors, trunk, hood, sunroof and more are all areas with sealed rubber that should be at the top of your cleaning list.

Why Does It Happen?

Because the edges on which the rubber sits on do not have a transparent coat like the color of your vehicle has, the rubber begins to disintegrate as soon as it leaves the factory. In order to truly understand what happens when rubber falls apart, it is important to first understand what rubber is made of.

  • Natural rubber is made from latex that's produced from a variety of different plants, but mainly from wood rubber. Rubber is a naturally sticky material that is transferred during the vulcanization process in order to become hard and smooth.

  •

  • Synthetic rubber on the other hand, is a newer invention. Petroleum-based monomeric polymers such as styrene, butadiene, isoprene, chloroprene and isobutylene allow us to produce synthetic rubber. Which is more heat-resistant than natural rubber, although it decomposes faster is better than natural rubber

How Can it Be Solved?

Overtime, rubber will eventually degrade and become sticky. This is something that can be fixed but cannot be prevented completely (due to the degeneration of the rubber molecules). At the end, these chemicals will break down completely. This is simply the nature of rubber!

That being said, there are a number of things that can be done to help maintain and protect your rubber. Rubber that receives regular treatment will retain its flexibility and molecular properties for longer than rubber that has been neglected and mistreated. With proper rubber restoration techniques, and a sufficient level of care and maintenance, certain rubber seals and polymer products can often be returned from their failure threshold.

Our goal is to help you delay the rubber deterioration as much as possible and prevent deterioration signs from appearing at all.

How To Properly Maintain Your Rubber

However, there are a number of things that can be done to properly maintain and protect your rubber and prevent it from falling apart. Regular cleaning and protection procedures will help extend the life of the rubber and prevent rapid disintegration.

Here our some maintenance tips:

  • To avoid the beginning signs of rubber fading or hardening, It is recommended to use the Tires & Plastic Restoration spray regularly while you do a general car wash.

  • Try to store your vehicle in shaded areas and not under direct sunlight. Parking in the shade will slow down the disintegration of the rubber.

  • Use a car cover if you are camping outside. This is another way to preserve the color of your car and prevent sun damage.

  • Try to open the car windows a little to help lower the interior temperature and equalize the air pressure.

It is important to notice that the rubber door seals found at the edges of your car doors are crucial in preventing rain, sand, wind and moisture from seeping through the gaps to the passenger compartment. If the rubber is damaged or is deteriorating, the temperature in your car compartment will be the same outside - whether it is hot and humid or cold and frozen, which could lead to some serious vehicle issues.
